CUNY-T.V.

April's episode begins in Midtown Manhattan, with the cultural and artistic exchange project between Mexico and New York called "El Trueque de Palabras," organized by the LARK Play Development Center. Then, going North to El Barrio, Patricio Lerzundi meets Aurora Flores, outstanding Nuyorican with a long career in music and public relations.

Next, in Brooklyn, Carmen Boullosa interviews Antonio Skármeta , the famous Chilean writer, author of The Postman and whose work has had a great impact in Europe and the U.S.

And, as a final destination, Nueva York will take you to East Harlem to learn about the bilingual economic and cultural stimulus project organized by the Manhattan Borough President called "Project Go Green!"

Since its first broadcast, Nueva York has built cultural and social ties between Latinos, and amongst Spanish speaking non-Latino communities.

Each episode is subtitled in English so that the largest numbers of viewers may appreciate more fully the richness and diversity of the cultural and humanitarian expression of the Spanish-speaking communities in the city. It is a television program that seeks to present the image of the social, educational and economic aspirations of the generations of immigrants and emigrants who have sought a better quality of life for themselves and their families.

The hosts of Nueva York are prestigious Mexican novelist and critic Carmen Boullosa, and Chilean writer Patricio Lerzundi. The general producer is Professor Jerry Carlson, specialist in Latin American cinema. They are all members of the academic staff at CUNY.

The program airs the first and second Thursday of every month at the following hours: 10am, 4pm and 10pm, and is rebroadcast at 2pm on Saturdays. CUNY TV airs on Channel 75 in the five boroughs of New York City.
